searching for alex
We organized a search party with the people from the village and looked for him everywhere. We even went back to the place where the bridge collapsed and where we discovered the teenager. Nothing, not even a clue, a sign. No one has seen him of heard of him for miles. I’m so scared and helpless that I tried to call Matthew in Santa Fe in case he knows something I don't but I couldn’t reach him. What’s going on, this must be a nightmare! What can I do, I never felt so alone in my entire life.

damn, where is alex!
He didn’t come back home last night and hasn't given any news either. That’s not normal and I’m really worried right now. Something happened to him. I can't get this fear off my mind. He would never let me without news like that. That’s my fault, why did I decide to come here? We should have waited. My god, I hope he’s okay!

alex is on a trek
When I woke up this morning Alex was on the leave, his bag on his back and he had his camera too. He told me he needed a short trek alone to clear up his mind. First I was surprised but I admit that I was so glad to hear him think of something else. It was the first sound sign he gave since the unknown teenager died on us. It’s 3 p.m. now, I started to pack our bags but I must convince him to come back with me. I’ll try tonight when he returns from his trek.

more trouble
I don’t know what to do. Alex is no longer interested in anything else except this unknown teenager's case. The village inhabitants are getting scared of him now. They believe he's under some sort of curse. Nobody comes anymore to consult Alex or confide in him. They all turn to me and I can't do it all by myself! They are so afraid of him and I can understand it. Alex looks sick and he almost lost 5 kilos. If you only could see him you would understand. I tried to talk to him twice but it's like he can’t hear me. We must go and leave this country. That’s the only solution I found for the moment.

obsession
Alex is getting obsessed by this teenager's case. He hasn’t slept for hours. He locks himself in his small lab all day long, running test after test. I’m getting worried: he doesn't seem to be able to think of anything else lately. He keeps telling me that this discovery is going to be a revolution for our whole world but I feel helpless and I don’t know what I could do or say to calm him down and bring him back to reality. Other people need our care here. I understand that he can be excited and, in a way, so am I but this discovery has to be handled very carefully. It’s so revolutionary that I am sure it could be dangerous too, I believe its drawbacks could be devastating if not handled carefully.

a new discovery?
Unbelievable! Alex was right. He claims he made an incredible discovery and it’s hard for me to believe it. He sent the information to Matthew I guess. I’m worried because I think it’s too soon to draw any conclusion from Alex's observations. It’s so incredible that I find it impossible to believe, the only thing I know is that we should check all this before. And check again for fear we're making a huge mistake. I hope Matthew won’t react too fast. But if Alex is right, this discovery could really make a big difference for medecine.

it never gets easier
The teenager died. He died in my arms and I couldn’t do anything. I cried. It always get to me to see a kid die. Maybe only because it keeps reminding me that I cannot have one of my own, that we, Alex and I, cannot ever have a baby. He looked so young and so helpless and obviously there was nothing we could do to save him, but still I feel guilty. Alex remained stunned for hours, trying to find some logical explanation. He told me that we had to go on with the tests, to find out what occurred to him but I feel so tired. He died but Alex seems untouched by his death. He’s not reacting as usual. He keeps testing this young boy’s blood as if it was the only thing that matters… He wants to understand. But what good can that do now that it is too late? We had a huge fight when he decided to do an autopsy of the poor kid without telling me. Sometimes, really, I must admit that our views differ completely!

He’s a teenager but it is impossible to tell exactly his age. Alex ran the same blood tests five times. None of the treatment we tried work. We don’t know what he suffers from and we feel helpless and challenged. Alex thinks we should look for further explanations. He’s convinced that there is an explanation. For sure. He multiplies the tests. On my side, I’ve be trying to find his family but I didn’t find anyone. I asked the workers, they told me they discovered him the way he was. No one knows him and no one can explain us what is the meaning of the tattoos he has on his body. I don’t know what to think. He remains unconscious and I don’t even know his name.

bridge incident
We’ve been woken up early in the morning by two men who work at the building of a bridge only a few miles from here. A slope of the mountain had collapsed on the site and people got injured but the falling rocks. When we got there we found a young Nepali completely naked among the injured workers (luckily nothing serious). He was like born from the earth, covered of dust. My first check up was unbelievable; all his vital functions were slowed down to a minimum. His heartbeat could hardly be heard. We first treated him right there: it would have been too dangerous to move him. It's only at night that we decided to bring him back to our little hospital.

walking
The inhabitants of the village have noticed that we were fond of walking. They find this funny.
Some of them offered us to work for us as our guide. I guess this is the way they found to thank us for taking care of them. They are incredibly poor, really, but they seem to be happy nonetheless. I have no regret about my decision: I was right to come here.

pioneers
We decided to make a round of visits through other valleys in order to treat and help more people than those of the nearest villages. We feel we're like pioneers of the old west. We spend endless days on rough trails and unpaved roads but… we haven’t been so happy for long.

brr
It’s getting colder and colder now. The winter makes our rounds incredibly more difficult. Alex tells me he doesn’t mind. He really does impress me. Santa Fe and Matthew seem to be only a bad and old souvenir. We never talk about it and it’s probably the best thing to do. I know Alex well, talking wouldn’t make things change. He’ll open himself to me only when he decides to do it.
